3D Viewer for Mac

Anne Jorstad
Hi- My question is about using the 3D Viewer on a Mac with Java 8.  Much web searching has lead me to understand that it is still necessary to use ImageJ with Java 6 on any recent Mac OS if we want to use the 3D Viewer.  However, our IT has decided that we cannot have such an old version of Java installed for security reasons.

Is there any other work around to be able to use the 3D Viewer on a modern Mac?  I know of many biologists at other institutions in addition to my own who are very frustrated by this.  Is there something fundamental we are missing?

For example:  "Show in 3D" from TrakEM2 gives the error ".ImageJ_3D_Viewer.props (no such file or directory)".

Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: 3D Viewer for Mac

Swayne, Theresa C.

Hi,

I’m using the 3D Viewer with Java 8 on a (fairly) modern Mac (OS 10.12.6 Sierra).

I use the Fiji distribution:
https://imagej.net/Fiji/Downloads

and activate the Java-8 update site:
https://imagej.net/Following_an_update_site

Sometimes downloading a fresh version of Fiji solves problems too.

Hope this helps.
